Joseph M. Reinhardt the Roy J. Carver Chair in Biomedical Engineering and a professor in the Roy J. Carver Department of Biomedical Engineering. In addition to directing the Reinhardt Biomedical Imaging Lab, he is a professor in the Department of Radiology, the Image Analysis Group leader at the Iowa Institute for Biomedical Imaging, and an affiliate of the Iowa Informatics Initiative and the Iowa Technology Institute.

As a graduate research assistant in the Reinhardt Biomedical Imaging Lab he has developed a deep learning method for pulmonary inter-lobar fissure integrity quantification and visualization from thoracic CT images. His research focuses on fissure integrity's relation to biomechanical and disease metrics.

Hira A. Awan is a PhD student in the Roy J. Carver Department of Biomedical Engineering and a graduate research assistant in the Reinhardt Biomedical Imaging Lab. She has a master's degree in Biostatistics from Duke University. Her research interest is to study the associations between quantitative computed tomography (QCT) derived textures and all-cause mortality. In addition to this, she is also trying to investigate the role of these QCT textures towards understanding the inflammatory mechanisms of COPD.
